The Taj Mahal was built by Emperor Shah Jahan in the memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. This pristine white marble beauty stands as a monument of love which the emperor built for his wife. Renowned as one of the seven wonders of the world, Taj stands true to its name the crown of Palaces and is a remarkable evidence of Mughal architecture. The Agra fort has audience halls and also two mosques. The entire fortress will leave you awe inspired and incapable of forgetting this symbol of Mughal grandeur. In the Agra Fort, Employee Shah Jahan was held prisoner by his own son Aurangazeb. Shah Jahan who built the Taj Mahal spent his last days here gazing at the everlasting monument he made for his beloved wife.

    Fatehpur Sikri ,a small city near Agra was built by Emperor Akbar in 1570 as his new capital.It was built as a tribute to a Sufi Saint. Built with red sandstones, the monument is a great combination of Indian, Islamic and Persian architecture. It was the capital of the Mughal Empire for 10 long years. The monumental complex includes the Buland Darwaza, Birbal’s House, Panch Mahal, Jama Masjid, an artificial lake. Fatehpur Shikri which means ‘ City Of Victory’ was later abandoned due to water shortage and other issues. With all its important construction this places represent the excellent craftsmanship, planning and excellent designing of the Mughals and as such it was declared as a World Heritage Site in 1983.

    4. Itmad-Ud-Daulah

    It is India’s first tomb made entirely out of marble. Itmad-Ud-Daulah was the title bestowed upon Mirza Ghiyas which signifies ‘Pillar of the Empire’. The tomb is a 21-meter high tomb constructed in the reign of Emperor Jahangir by his wife Nur Jahan as a memory of her father Mirza Ghiyas. Situated on The Jamuna river situated just outside Agra has its own architectural beauty and significance. It incorporates Persian and Islamic architectural style. The wall paintings are also a blissful beauty to watch.
