Assam is one of the seven sister states and is located in the northeastern part of our country India. I have always been stressing lots of importance in travelling in the northeastern states. One is sure to find unadulterated beauty in the Northeastern states that include Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Sikkim and Tripura. These places in Northeast are far away from being commercial and overcrowded tourists.Among all there are 5 best places you must visit when in Assam

Many people don’t visit may be due to low accessibility from the rest of the country. But now communication has changed, nowadays there are flights, buses and train services to each Northeastern states. When we are talking about ultimate places to visit in Assam comes there are a lot of places that a travel lover must visit in his/her life.

Assam is a unique blend of tradition, culture and heritage and in each of its districts, you will find the presence of this blend vividly visible. Of all some of the best places to visit in Assam are-

     1. Guwahati

Well, Guwahati is the most developing state of Northeast. It is also the gateway to the other states in the northeastern part of our country. When you are visiting Guwahati you can explore a lot more about it. The Srimanta Sankardeva Kalashetra, the state museum, the Science Museum, Planetarium, etc. Guwahati is also the land of Maa Kamakhya and many beautiful temples which has its roots that date back to the ancient era.       2. Sivasagar

The places that bear significance in the history of Assam is the land of the Ahom kingdom Sivasagar which was also the main capital of the Ahom rulers. Located at a distance of 362 km from Guwahati, you can see excellent architectural patterns, the excellent craftsmanship of the artisans and architects during the Ahom rule in Sivasagar. The most important places of tourist attraction are The Rang Ghar which is also known as Colosseum of the East, The Talatal Ghar, the burial vaults or maidans at Charaideo, Shivadol the famous Shiva temple built by Swargadeo Siva Singha, The Kareng Ghar, The Joysagar tank, The Gaurisagar tank, The Sivasagar tank. All the places have great importance and are built by the Ahom rulers. If you are in Assam a visit to Sivasagar should be on the top of the lists. 

    3. Tezpur

Among all the best places to visit in Assam, Tezpur is mu favourite. Tezpur University is where my heart and soul lies as I have completed my masters theer. Tezpur is an important place in terms of history and architecture. It has its roots in Indian mythology. The major tourist attraction in Tezpur also called the Cultural Capital of Assam, are the Agnigarh which is a fortress built to keep in isolation King Bana’s daughter Usha from Anirudha Lord Krishna’s grandson. From Agnigarh you can get a splendid view of the mighty river Brahmaputra. The other important places are the Bamuni Hills, Chitralekha Udyan also known as Cole Park which has architectural ruins that date back to the 8th and 9th century. The Da-Parbatia and the Mahabhairab Mandir (temple) are examples of marvellous architectural pattern and designs of the ancient age.

     4. National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries

Assam is blessed with rich and diverse flora and fauna. It is also home to the Great One Horned Rhinoceros and many other endangered species. Due to tropical monsoon rainfall, kind of climate the forests of Assam are dense and gives shelter to many rare species. Nature remains in full bounty throughout the years in Assam. Of all the most important National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries in Assam are The Kaziranga National Park, The Manas National Park, The Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, The Dibru Saikhowa National Park, The Nameri National Park and The Orang National Park. All these places are well connected by buses and trains. 

   5. Majuli

Majuli the largest river island in the world is in Assam. It is a beautiful place and is the seat of culture, tradition and, values. To reach Majuli, you can first reach Jorhat, than take a ferry at Nimati Ghat and from there to Kamalabari Ghat. From there you can take small vehicles to reach Majuli. Mask making is a very common and important tradition in Majuli. The masks are made of materials such as bamboo, paper mache, cloth, clay, etc. The maks are inspired by famous characters of our Hindu Mythology like Brahma, Hansa, Ganesha, Garuda, Jatayu, ten-headed Ravana, Kumbhkarna, Taraka, Maricha, Subahu, Putana, Chakravat, Kaliya Naag, Bakasura, Aghasura, Dhenukasura, Batsasura, Hanuman, Jambuban, Baraha, Nar Simha etc. Although they don’t make masks for Rama, Krishna, and Lakshmana. The best time to visit Majuli is during Raas that takes places in November.
